Rules & Regulations
Time Limits:
Solos/Duets/Trios: 3 minute maximum
Small Groups: 3 ½ minute maximum
Large Groups: 4 minute maximum
Extended Line: 4minute maximum
Production: 8 minute maximum
Divisions:
Solo: One Dancer
Duet/Trio Two or Three Dancers
Small Group: Four to Nine Dancers
Large Group: Ten to Eighteen Dancers
Extended Line: Nineteen plus Dancers
Production: Twenty plus Dancers
Age Divisions:
Mini: Ages 8 and Under
Junior: Ages 9 to 11
Intermediate: Ages 12 to 14
Senior: Ages 15 and Over
Each dancer will be entered in an age category that applies to them as of January 1, 2011. All solo dancers will be entered in their appropriate age category. The age for duets, trios, small groups, large groups, extended lines and productions will be entered in a category determined by the average age of the group. Should there be a .5 or more in the age average, please round the total up to the nearest number. All entries must include the birth date of each dancer. Should there be any question about a dancer’s age, a proof by birth certificate must be provided by the studio director. Please ensure that you have copies of all dancers birth certificates with you at all times, should a situation arise.
Classifications:
Novice: A novice dancer is one that is new to the competitive world of dance and has never competed before. A soloist may be in a novice category as long as they have never competed in a solo before. However they may have competed in a group category in the past. Solos, duets and trios must be 100% novice to compete in this category. Groups must consist of a minimum of 75% novice dancers to compete in this category.
Pre Competitive: A pre competitive dancer is one that may have competed before, but that spends less than 6 hours a week in training. All solos, duets or trios must be 100% pre-competitive. Groups must consist of a minimum of 75% pre-competitive to compete in this category.
Competitive: A competitive dancer is one that may train 6 hours or more in a week. A competitive group must consist of a minimum of 75% competitive dancers to compete in this category.
Professional/Teacher: A professional or teacher is any dancer that receives any sort of income from teaching the art of dance. Any dancers that are teacher’s assistants may compete in a regular category as long as they are not receiving any income from their dance school.
